At first, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. We were attending appointments, saving reports, and following up with specialists as usual. Over time, however, we began to notice a deeper issue. Our family's medical history wasn't in one place, or even in one country. It was scattered across hospital portals, folders, email threads, school forms, and different imaging systems. We even kept a paper dossier, but it stayed at home and never travelled with us.
Yes. When our son was six months old, we started introducing solid foods, beginning with small pieces of bread. One afternoon in Switzerland he got red flare marks on his head. They appeared quickly but went away within an hour. The next day the same reaction happened again, only stronger, and we took him to the doctor. That was when we first learned about his food allergy.
A few weeks later, during the summer in France, he had a similar reaction — this time with eczema-type symptoms after eating another food. We had to see a doctor there too. We tried to remember what the doctors in Switzerland had said and diagnosed just weeks before, but it was difficult to recall everything accurately. The same information existed in two countries, yet putting it together quickly and correctly was surprisingly hard. That was our real aha moment.
